Call for applications

One postdoc and two PhD student positions in philosophy of physics in Lausanne for four years

The positions are funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation within the project “A philosophical enquiry into a parsimonious ontology of the natural world”. Applications are welcome from anybody with a firm background in philosophy of science and / or physics who intends to do a PhD thesis or a postdoc in philosophy of physics. Particular attention will be paid to project proposals related to (a) the metaphysics of laws and explanations, as far as it concerns contemporary physics, (b) ontic structural realism and the ontology of physics, (c) relationalism about space and time in the context of contemporary physics, (d) the ontology of quantum physics in a scientific realist setting, or (e) the relationship between quantum non-locality and relativistic physics, again in a scientific realist setting.

Decisions shall be made by the end of October, start of employment possible from 1 November 2017 on or a later date, employment for 4 years with 1 year probation period. Salary in the first year CHF 47000 for PhD students and CHF 64000 for postdoc (80% employment) (from which about 25% have to be deduced for social charges and taxes, and the comparatively high living costs in Switzerland have to be taken into account).
