2020 Du Châtelet Prize in Philosophy of Physics

The winner of the 2020 Du Châtelet Prize in Philosophy of Physics<https://duchateletprize.org> is Joshua Eisenthal, for his paper "Hertz's Mechanics and a unitary notion of force”. Eisenthal will give his prize lecture at Duke University next year, at a date to be arranged. Congratulations Josh!

The Du Châtelet Prize in Philosophy of Physics — supported by Duke University in collaboration with Studies in History and Philosophy of Science — recognizes a graduate student or recent Ph.D. for their previously unpublished work in philosophy of physics. This year, applicants were asked to address the topic: “Mathematics as a tool of conceptual innovation in physical theory and/or experiment, 1780–1890”

With thanks to all the applicants for their submissions, and to this year’s committee members Janet Folina, Doreen Fraser, Lydia Patton and Sheldon Smith, for their hard work in the difficult task of choosing a winner. And finally: congratulations again to Josh for the creativity and excellence of scholarship on display in his prize-winning paper.
