We are excited to announce Dr. Michela Massimi as the Adolf Grünbaum Memorial Lecturer for the 61st Annual Lecture Series!

The Annual Lecture Series, the Center's oldest program, was established in 1960, the year when Adolf Grünbaum founded the Center. Grünbaum passed away at the age of 95 in November 2018. In honor and memory of his legacy of prolific and profound contributions to the field of philosophy, the Center has established an annual Adolf Grünbaum Memorial Lecture. Each year one of the lecturers for the Annual Lecture Series is the Adolf Grünbaum Memorial Lecturer. We believe Dr. Massimi is a wonderful choice for this year’s Adolf Grünbaum Memorial Lecturer.

Dr. Massimi is professor in the Department of Philosophy at University of Edinburgh as well as affiliated with the Higgs Centre for Theoretical Physics, and she is one of the most influential philosophers of physics. She has received many awards. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, the Royal Astronomical Society, corresponding Member of the Académie Internationale de Philosophie des Sciences, and elected Member of the Academia Europaea. She was also the recipient of the Royal Society’s Wilkins-Bernal-Medawar Medal and Lecture in 2017 for her interdisciplinary work and communication of philosophy of science, especially modern physics. From 2015 to 2019 she was Vice-President of the European Philosophy of Science Association. She was also the Co-Editor in Chief of The British Journal for the Philosophy of Science from 2011 to 2016, and finally she is the President-Elect of the Philosophy of Science Association.

Congratulations, Dr. Massimi! We look forward to Dr. Massimi’s lecture on April 9, 2021.
