The Department of Mathematics of the Politecnico di Milano (PoliMi) is opening a three-year junior faculty position as "Ricercatore di tipo A" (RTD-A – Assistant Professor) in philosophy of climate science and economics to work on the project "Philosophical Problems in Climate Science: Dealing with Uncertainty in Mitigation and Adaptation Strategies". Here’s below a brief description of the sought-after profile.

“This research project aims to develop a framework to classify and help reduce uncertainty in the construction and application of climate models, as well as to transfer the relevant information from scientists to policy makers for the purpose of guiding rational decisions in the face of uncertainty. In line with the particular concerns of the “Piano Nazionale per la Ricerca” for green issues, it has a focus on the development of mitigation and adaptation strategies for climate change. The successful candidate is expected to have the ability to deal with the formal methods of climate science and economics and to combine them with the conceptual tools adopted in philosophy of science, especially for the treatment of uncertainty.”

Beside interacting with the colleagues in the Department of Mathematics, the successful candidate will join the inter-departmental group META devoted to philosophy and sociology of science and technology at the Politecnico di Milano (meta | Social Sciences and Humanities for Science and Technology (polimi.it)<http://www.meta.polimi.it/> ). As part of the research project, she\he will also have to spend six-month in the form of a stage at a private consulting company (the Ramboll Italy srl), with objective to apply the result of the research to concrete problems concerning mitigation and adaptation strategies. Speaking Italian is not mandatory and there is some teaching being requested (typically one course per year).

The deadline for applications is October 20, 2021. The starting date for the job must be mandatorily fixed in December 2021.
