Two postdoctoral positions will be offered at CEA-Saclay (Paris) and at Institut NĂ©el - CNRS (Grenoble) as part of the project "TaQC - Taming Quantum Causality" funded by the French National Agency for Research (ANR).

One aspect of the project is to investigate the notion of causal indefiniteness in the framework of generalized probabilistic theories (GPTs). The role of the candidate will be to go beyond process matrices to develop higher order computation in existing GPTs and devise models that offer a conceptually new angle to causal indefiniteness. Another aspect of the project is to explore computational implications of causally indefinite processes, in quantum theory and/or in GPTs. The candidate will compare and clarify the role of causal indefiniteness in bringing potential advantages to various types of computational problems. The larger objective is to determine the role of superposition and entanglement, and to clarify the capabilities, particularities, and limits of causal indefiniteness as a non-classical resource.

These positions will be supervised by Cyril Branciard (Grenoble) and Alexei Grinbaum (Saclay). They will also involve collaboration with other TaQC participants at Inria, particularly at the Quacs team in Saclay and the QInfo team in Grenoble.

Details:

The two positions are for 12 months each, and can start some time between July and November 2024.

The two positions will be offered either to two different candidates in parallel (and in close collaboration), or to a single candidate one after another.

Requirements:

PhD in physics. Previous academic work in quantum physics, quantum foundations, and/or computer science with a focus on quantum information theory. Track record of academic publications. Proven interest for quantum causality.

How to apply:

Please send by March 15th a CV with a publication list, a short motivation letter, and contact details of at least 2 referees to alexei.grinbaum at cea.fr<mailto:alexei.grinbaum at cea.fr> and cyril.branciard at neel.cnrs.fr<mailto:cyril.branciard at neel.cnrs.fr>
