Professor Scruton, who is the author of more than 30 books on political philosophy, aesthetics and music, as well as having written several novels and composed two operas, is one of the most influential and controversial scholars of his generation.
Outside his career as a philosopher, he was the leading figure in the creation of underground universities and academic networks in Soviet-controlled Central Europe during the Cold War.
Professor Scruton was created a Knight Bachelor by Queen Elizabeth ll in the Queen's 90th Birthday Honours List.

In his lecture, Sir Roger will seek answers to questions which are fundamental not merely to the survival of conservatism, but to civilised
society:
What is there left of conservatism in a society of material abundance and instant communication, when human relations are fluid, global and without respect for the old boundaries and the old hesitations? Can we find our way back to the spirit of our civilisation, and if not, does it matter?
The lecture is being organised in conjunction with the PÁZMÁNY PÉTER CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY and the INSTITUTE OF PHILOSOPHY, NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES.
Professor FERENC HÖRCHER, Director, Institute of Philosophy, Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Professor of Aesthetics at Pázmány Péter Catholic University, and a specialist of the political philosophy of British conservatism will respond to Sir Roger's lecture, after which there will be time for questions. The event will close with a reception.
Places at the lecture are strictly limited, and priority will be given to early applicants.
