Offre de contrat doctoral de 3 ans en histoire de la philosophie (16e-17e)
dans le cadre du projet ERC NOTCOM. NOTCOM est un projet pluriannuel en
histoire de la philosophie des sciences financé par une bourse ERC Advanced
en 2023-2027. Le projet est dédié à l'épistémologie, les méthodes et les
stratégies de communication de la science collective au 17e siècle. Il est
établi en collaboration avec le centre de recherche IHRIM à l'ENS de Lyon
et la Maison Française d'Oxford, une unité CNRS à l'étranger, domiciliée en

*Sujet de thèse* : la thèse doit porter sur la philosophie naturelle ou
l'histoire des sciences naturelles et médicales aux 16e et/ou 17e siècles
et inclure une dimension épistémologique. Le sujet de la thèse à proprement
parler est à l'appréciation du candidat et pourra être précisé en dialogue
avec les directeurs de thèse. Les candidates et candidats sont encouragés à
se renseigner auprès des directeurs de thèse avant de soumettre leur
candidature (raphaele.andrault at ens-lyon.fr, mogens.laerke at cnrs.fr).

*Réquisits :*

- Le doctorant/la doctorante sera rattaché à l'IHRIM ENS de Lyon, ce qui
implique une résidence administrative à Lyon. Il devra également passer 4 à
6 semaines par an à la Maison Française d'Oxford (les frais de mobilité
seront pris en charge par le projet NOTCOM ; ils ne seront donc pas à la
charge du doctorant/ de la doctorante).

- La thèse peut être rédigée en français ou en anglais. Si c'est le second
cas, le candidat doit également avoir une bonne maîtrise au moins passive
du français (compréhension orale et écrite), et il est attendu qu'un résumé
substantiel de la thèse (environ 10%) soit fourni en fin de contrat
doctoral, avant la soutenance. Si la thèse est rédigée en français, le
candidat doit avoir un niveau d'anglais satisfaisant.

- Le doctorant/la doctorante dépendra de l'école doctorale de philosophie
(ED n° 487). Pour valider son doctorat, il lui faudra effectuer 60 h de
formation sur toute la durée du doctorat.

DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN EARLY MODERN PHILOSOPHY (LYON/OXFORD)

A three-year doctoral fellowship in the history of philosophy (16th-17th
centuries) is available in the context of the ERC project NOTCOM. NOTCOM is
a five-year research project in the history of philosophy of science funded
by an ERC Advanced Grant in 2023-2027. It is dedicated to the epistemology,
methods, and communication strategies of collective science in the
seventeenth century. The project is set up between the research centre
IHRIM at the Ecole Normale Supériere de Lyon and the Maison Française
d'Oxford, a CNRS unit abroad, placed in England. For more information, see

Thesis supervisors: Mogens Lærke and Raphaële Andrault

Thesis topic : The thesis should be concerned with natural philosophy or
the history of natural or medical sciences in the 16th and/or 17th
centuries and include an epistemological dimension. The precise thesis
topic should be defined by the candidate and can be further elaborated in
dialogue with the thesis directors. Interested candidates are encouraged to
contact the supervisors for further information about the fellowship before
submitting (raphaele.andrault at ens-lyon.fr, mogens.laerke at cnrs.fr).

Requirements :

- The doctoral fellow's main affiliation will be the research unit IHRIM at
the ENS de Lyon, which implies administrative residence in Lyon. Over the
three years of thesis work, the fellow will also accumulate stays of
approx. 4-6 weeks a year at the Maison Française d'Oxford. The expenses
associated with these stays are covered by the NOTCOM project and will not
involve additional cost for the doctoral fellow.

- The thesis can be written in French or in English. In the latter case,
however, the candidate must have at least good passive knowledge of French
(understanding of written and spoken French). It is moreover required that
a substantial summary of the thesis (about 10%) should be provided at the
end of the contract, before the thesis defence. If the thesis is written in
French, the candidate must have reasonable good English skills.

-- The doctoral fellow will be enrolled in the doctoral school of
philosophy in Lyon (ED no. 487). In order to validate the contract, the
candidate must complete 60 hours of training throughout the three years of
their doctorate.
