Bike-Sharing and Playbour: Digital Capitalism as a New Form of Capitalism
"Digital capitalism" refers to the capitalism in the digital age, a development model in which information or data holds a dominant position. There are two core concepts in digital capitalism: "platform" and "virtual entity". The"platform" creates a new environment, forcibly stripping people from their familiar surroundings through soft violence and seizing a large amount of data produced by users. “Bike-Sharing” is one of the products of the platform economy. The "virtual entity" is a digital constructed identity, which has independence from the physical self, possesses its own personality, and has all the character traits, personas, and behavioral patterns to participate in social activities. People use virtual entities to “comment” and “like” on social media, plan trips on Google Maps, and then share the data they generate with the platform. This is what playbours are doing. Bike-Sharing and Playbour; platforms and virtual entities, are all new manifestations of capitalism in the present, and the analysis of them is also part of Marxist capital criticism.
