Dear all,

The Consortium working group on History and Philosophy of Contemporary
Theoretical Physics will resume its virtual monthly meetings for the new
academic year. New members are welcome. This year, we will focus on two
main themes within the history and philosophy of physics:

   • Development and Interpretation of Classical Field Theory
   • Symmetry and Symmetry Breaking in Quantum Field Theory

Every second Wednesday of the month, the group will host a scholar whose
work aligns with one of these themes. Each meeting will feature a reading
selection that includes a secondary source authored by the guest scholar,
along with a selection of relevant primary sources. The primary aim of this
working group is to foster a network of scholars engaged in the history and
philosophy of modern physics, facilitating discussions on both historical
and research papers.

In our first meeting on October 9 2024 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm CEST (9:30 am to
11:00 am EDT), we will host Giora Hon (University of Haifa) to discuss his
paper with Bernard Goldstein "Interpretation in Electrodynamics, Atomic
Theory, and Quantum Mechanics", together with Maxwell's paper "Faraday".
Further invited expert guests include Michel Janssen (University of
Minnesota) and Donald Salisbury (Austin College) together with Kurt
Sundermayer, with more to be announced.

The papers and the Zoom link are available (after short registration) in
the group website:

Hope to see you there,
Guy (together with Noah Stemeroff (Uni Bonn) and Bernadette Lessel (MPIWG,
Berlin)).
