This Wednesday 18/02 at 16h CET I will be giving a talk at the COSMOS seminar (https://cosmosproject.unimi.it/2026/02/03/who-is-the-author-of-special-and-general-relativity/):

Who is the author of special and general relativity?

While at earlier times people, scientists, theories were less numerous, in modern physics similar results and priority questions abound. Both special and general relativity (SR and GR) were analysed from this point of view around the turn of the 21st century, but apparently still inconclusively. I will discuss for SR the debate over the contributions of Lorentz, Poincaré, Einstein between Gingras (2008) and Darrigol (2005), and for GR the debate over the contributions of Einstein and Hilbert by Corry, Renn, Stachel (1997) versus Sauer (2005). My primary aim will be to infer general approaches towards attributing authorship of theories.
