TOP TEN WORKCAMPS

Italy.Capo Castello.IT-SCI. 6.14. 24/08/2009- 02/09/2009.
The project will be in Capocastello, the medieval town of Mercogliano,
where the fountain head Acqua del Pero is located, a beautiful XVIII
century building, which, with a water system, takes water in order to
supply the wash-tub, the fountain and the sheeps-cleaning
pool and to start the mill up. We will visit a twenty year old theatre,
which was left unused and abandoned, although it is in a great panoramic
point; there, we will take pictures to make an exhibition and we will
organize a theatre of the oppressed show.
WORK: In the morning volunteers will clean up the footpaths, the wash-tub
and the mill, which are covered by plants, because of their state of
abandon.

Austria.Meeting Place - Paths of Peace, Ktschach-Mauthen/Plcken,
Carinthia. AT-SCI. 3-2. 08/08/2009- 22/08/2009.
Many traces have been left by the First World War in the mountains between
the Ortler Group and the Isonzo River during the years 1915-18. More than
thirty years ago, a small group of mountaineering joined forces with the
intention of restoring and re-opening some of the old wartime paths which
led up these mountains. In 1973 this idea evolved into the founding of the
Association named: FRIENDS OF THE
DOLOMITES. Their motto became: "Paths which once
separated us, shall unite us today" and the name "PATHS OF PEACE". The
friends of the Dolomites are working here since 1983, with the help of
their International team of volunteers to reconstruct old trails, as well
as excavate and reconstruct historical sites. As a result of such efforts,
the impressive Open Air Museum, up in the mountains, is free of charge and
accessible to everyone. Basically, everyone is welcome to join us,
regardless your age, gender or whether you have specialized skills or not,
anyone can help. Our requirements are: Personal dedication, tolerance,
ability to improvise, think independently and to be a good team player
with the volunteers from the Friends of the Dolomites (most volunteers are
Austrian, German, Hungarian and Italian). It is essential to be able to
work on mountain construction sites, to be in good physical condition and
be surefooted on rocky and uneven terrain. The work will be hard, but
useful and very important. We appreciate volunteers who are open-minded,
interested in war history, flexible and with good teamwork spirit. Those
who are looking for a cheap holiday, please abstain. Work: In the working
camps of the Open Air Museum of the Great War in the mountains
(1915-1917), on the Kleinen Pal (Pl?cken Pass) there are many tasks that
must be achieved: Clearing and maintaining, as well as marking the
existing trails; applying wood varnish protector to wooden structures;
mounting or placement of information plates; excavation and clearance of
war time trenches and shelters (caverns) as well as reconstructing
collapsed rock walls.

- preparing the site for the construction of an arbour;
- making the base and the actual construction of an arbour from wood
they will be provided with a model, but each of the

Wadi Al Nisnas is the oldest and largest Palestinian Arab neighbourhood in
Haifa

existence in the city as some 70,000 of its inhabitants were displaced
during al Nakba of 48 and only 2,000 of them have managed to stay there
since then.
The city of Haifa, generally, had lost a lot of its Arab hue since al
Nakba; whole Arab neighborhoods were demolished, houses and other private
properties were confiscated, even Islamic Waqf properties were confiscated
and the sanctity of holy places was violated through the reconstruction of
cemeteries into parking lots and public services centers.
