The Department

The Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method is an exciting place to study philosophy. The department, founded in 1946 by Sir Karl Popper, is internationally recognised for its excellence. It offers four Masters Programmes and a PhD Programme. The Department is closely associated with both the Centre for the Philosophy of the Natural and the Social Sciences and the Institute of Philosophy of the School of Advanced Study, which host leading visiting scholars and support a range of research projects, seminars and lecture series. This creates an active intellectual environment with students working in general philosophy of science, philosophy of physics, philosophy of economics, philosophy of social science, philosophy and public policy, rational choice and scientific methodology.
