This conference is organised by the Dutch Society for Philosophy of Science (NVWF) together with Flemisch philosophers of science. During the conference researchers with an orientation towards philosophy of science will present their research. Next to topics from formal and general philosophy of science, epistemology and methodology, the conference is open to topics from the philosophy and foundations of the special sciences (alfa, bèta, gamma, medical, technical).
Presentations

*     Four plenary sessions consisting of one presentation followed by a commentary and discussion. The presentations are by invited speakers: 

             -   Eric Schliesser  (Ghent)     

Newton's Challenge to Philosophy
             -   Katya Tentori (Trento, Italy)     

Psychology of reasoning meets formal epistemology: Three experimental studies in the framework of Bayesian confirmation theory                
             -   Jos Uffink  (Utrecht)

             -   Tim de Mey  (Rotterdam)

*      Parallel sessions with a total of 24 contributed papers (30 minutes and 15 minutes discussion)

Language

The official language will be the lingua franca of philosophy of science (broken English).

Accommodation

Participants stay in convenient single rooms. A few double rooms are also available.

Costs

Participation for the full conference, including lodging, breakfast and lunch on Saturday and a diner on Friday, costs

·                 €200 for non-members NVWF,

·                 €175 for members NVWF,

·                 €125 not including lodging and breakfast.

Students (masters, PhD) are eligible for a reduced tariff of €125.

Membership NVWF

Membership of the Nederlandse Vereniging voor Wetenschaps-filosofie costs only €12 yearly, and is thus lucrative for participants of the conference. Using the registration form for the conference one can also subscribe to become a member of NVWF. For more information on NVWF: www.nvwf.nl

Registration

Those interested in participating are requested to send the following information to reserveringen at isvw.nl before April 22nd 2010:

·    Name, e-mail address, address for correspondence, accommodation details.

·     Indicate membership of NVWF. In case one is not a member, indicate whether one wants to subscribe to become a member of NVWF.

Upon receipt of the registration a letter of acknowledgement and an invoice will be sent.

Conference programme and organising committee

The organising committee consists of Bart van Kerkhove (Vrije Universiteit Brussel), Jan-Willem Romeijn (Rijksuniversiteit Groningen) and Michiel Seevinck (Universiteit Utrecht). The committee aims to present a programme of high quality that has a well-balanced substantive structure. Contributions are welcomed on both the more general as well as the more discipline-oriented philosophy of science.

During the parallel session a maximum of two presentations will be given simultaneously. In case of a large number of high quality submissions the organising committee may has to use a waiting list.
