Jack Palmer előadása azt vizsgálja, hogy Zygmunt Bauman és a Budapesti
Iskola – Heller Ágnes, Fehér Ferenc és Márkus György – levelezésének
tükrében hogyan értelmezhetjük újra Tony Judt koncepcióját a „emigráns
értelmiségiek levél-köztársaságáról”. Arra is rákérdez, mit árulnak el az
európai archívumokban őrzött emigráns levelezések a "száműzött értelmiségi
lét" körülményeiről, illetve milyen hatással volt az emigráció tapasztalata
a modern társadalmi gondolkodás fejlődésére.
Jack Palmer's presentation examines how Tony Judt's concept of the "Exilic
Republic of Letters" can be reinterpreted in light of the correspondence
between Zygmunt Bauman and the Budapest School – Ágnes Heller, Ferenc
Fehér, and György Márkus. He also asks what the correspondence of emigrants
preserved in European archives reveals about the circumstances of "exiled
intellectual life" and what impact the experience of emigration had on the
development of modern social thought.
